It is like Google, but for searching publishing DTP file formats…

January 19, 2010

PageZephyr from Markzware, is the latest desktop search-engine on the block, but with an interesting added-value. It allows you to index and search Adobe InDesign CS3, CS4, etc layouts as well as QuarkXPress archives WITHOUT opening them or even having their expensive applications.

It is like Google, but for Desktop publisher file formats indeed!

That is not all; it will also extract the text content for you as well as an RTF doc or even automatically uploading to a web blog. All as a stand-alone application, no Adobe Plug-in needed! Here is our intro video. PageZephyr is great for publishing houses, eDiscovery firms, content managers and anyone really with numerous .qxp or .indd files:

Adobe® InDesign® CS4 Announced

September 24, 2008

Adobe has announced Creative Suite® or CS4 as many call it. Coming in several packages (Production, Master, Design and Web Premium.), InDesign® is a part of all of these offerings, apart from the Web Premium one.

Adobe InDesign CS4 allows it’s users to create and deliver finished content (layouts) in print, interactive PDFs or Flash files for web or multi-media purposes.

In part, Adobe Systems Incorporated press release on Adobe® InDesign® CS4 reads:

InDesign CS4 delivers powerful new features and enhancements that help increase productivity and efficiency, streamline and automate long document creation and expand output to new media, such as interactive PDFs or Adobe Flash® files. With innovative and integrated collaboration services, InDesign CS4 enables users to design more in less time, avoid costly production errors, efficiently create unique content for multiple media, and work effectively with clients and peers.

There are several exciting new features and functions, even though many are saying this is asking a lot to call this a full-fledged new Upgradable version (which may simply mean CS3 was made so well, that people are happy with it today.). Here are a few of the important new CS4 InDesign additions according to About.com:

Set Conditional Text: Create multiple versions from one source (such as different regional editions or different languages) that are like different layers — either on or off. Text reflows based on the visible layer or version.

Live Preflight: Instead of waiting until the end to preflight your document, Live Preflight looks at it during the creation process and shows you potential problem areas as you work. You can create a profile to look for specific conditions on a per document basis, embed or share preflight profiles. The Preflight panel lists and lets you navigate to problems for quick editing. Fix the problem and the Preflight panel updates automatically.

Smart Tools: Smart Guides, Dimensions, Spacing, and Cursors dynamically show positions and allow precise placement and positioning of objects.

A lot to look forward to. It is rumored that Adobe Creative Suite 4 will be released in October of this year.
